Modesto gas prices have risen 5.2 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $3.20/gallon as of Jan. 20, according to GasBuddy’s daily survey of 201 stations. Gas prices in Modesto are 11.9 cents per gallon lower than a month ago and stand 13.5 cents per gallon higher than a year ago.

According to GasBuddy price reports, the cheapest station in Modesto was priced at $2.75/gallon Monday, Jan. 20 while the most expensive was $3.85, a difference of $1.10/gallon. The lowest price in the state was $2.79 while the highest was $5.74, a difference of $2.95/gallon. The cheapest price in the entire country on Jan. 20 stood at $1.89/gallon while the most expensive was $5.74, a difference of $3.85/gallon.

The national average price of gasoline has fallen 2.0 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $2.55. The national average is down 0.8 cents per gallon from a month ago and stands 30.4 cents per gallon higher than a year ago.

Neighboring areas and their current gas prices include: Stockton - $3.26/gallon, up 1.6 cents per gallon from last week’s $3.24; Oakland - $3.53, down 1.9 cents from last week’s $3.55/gallon; and San Jose - $3.46, down 0.5 cents from last week’s $3.47/gallon.

“With oil prices sagging lately, the door has been opened for a notable decline in U.S. gasoline prices, and that’s exactly what has happened, with more declines likely coming ahead of us before the fun is over,” said Patrick DeHaan, head of petroleum analysis for GasBuddy.
