Gasoline prices in Modesto have fallen 1.8 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $3.63/gallon Sunday, according to GasBuddy’s daily survey of 201 stations in Modesto. This compares with the national average that has fallen 4.7 cents per gallon versus last week to $2.83/gallon, according to GasBuddy.
Average gasoline prices on Oct. 22 in Modesto have ranged widely over the last five years: $2.86/gallon in 2017, $2.59 in 2016, $2.59 in 2015, $3.30 in 2014 and $3.60/gallon in 2013.
Including the change locally during the past week, prices Sunday were 77.3 cents per gallon higher than a year ago and are 20.3 cents per gallon higher than a month ago. The national average has dropped 1.6 cents per gallon during the last month and stands 39.6 cents per gallon higher than a year ago.
Areas near Modesto and their current gas price climate include: Stockton - $3.67/gallon, down 1.3 cents per gallon from last week’s $3.68; Oakland - $3.82, down 0.6 cents from $3.82; and San Jose - $3.81, unchanged from last week’s $3.81/gallon.
“Much of the country continues to enjoy broad decreases in gas prices as oil prices drop to $69 per barrel. In fact, with the exception of the West Coast where an earlier natural gas pipeline shut down caused prices to up, nearly every state saw prices move lower,” said Patrick DeHaan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy.
