Average gasoline prices in Modesto have risen 1.9 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $4.42/gallon as of March 2, according to GasBuddy’s survey of 201 stations in Modesto. Prices in Modesto are 36.7 cents per gallon higher than a month ago and stand 17.7 cents per gallon lower than a year ago. The national average price of diesel has increased 5.4 cents compared to a week ago and stands at $3.74 per gallon.
According to GasBuddy price reports, the cheapest station in Modesto was priced at $3.97/gallon while the most expensive was $5.19, a difference of $1.22/gallon. The lowest price in the state was $2.99 while the highest was $6.79, a difference of $3.80/gallon.
The national average price of gasoline has risen 5.6 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $2.94/gallon on March 2. The national average is up 7.8 cents per gallon from a month ago and stands 10.1 cents per gallon lower than a year ago, according to GasBuddy data compiled from more than 11 million weekly price reports covering over 150,000 gas stations across the country.
Neighboring areas and their current gas prices include: Stockton - $4.40/gallon, up 9.6 cents from last week’s $4.31; Oakland - $4.65, unchanged from last week; and San Jose - $4.60, up 2.1 cents per gallon from $4.58/gallon.
“The national average price of gasoline has climbed for a fourth straight week, driven primarily by seasonal tightening and broader market dynamics,” said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy. “In the week ahead, gasoline prices are likely to face heightened upward pressure as seasonal trends continue and markets navigate the evolving geopolitical landscape, with the national average poised to reach the $3-per-gallon mark for the first time this year.”
Historical gasoline prices in Modesto and the national average going back five years show the highest Modesto price of $4.63 per gallon was registered on March 2, 2022 and the highest U.S. average was $3.69 on the same date. Lowest price of $3.49 per gallon in Modesto was on March 2 2021, the same date as the lowest U.S. average of $2.74 per gallon.
