Average gasoline prices in Modesto have risen 6.7 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $4.22/gallon as of Feb. 5, according to GasBuddy’s survey of 201 stations in Modesto. Prices in Modesto are 13.9 cents per gallon lower than a month ago and stand 11.8 cents per gallon lower than a year ago. The national average price of diesel has risen 3.0 cents in the last week and stands at $3.92 per gallon.
According to GasBuddy price reports, the cheapest station in Modesto was priced at $3.79/gallon on Feb. 5 while the most expensive was $4.89, a difference of $1.10/gallon. The lowest price in the state was $3.45 while the highest was $6.09, a difference of $2.64/gallon.
The national average price of gasoline has risen 4.3 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $3.12/gallon. The national average is up 4.0 cents per gallon from a month ago and stands 32.5 cents per gallon lower than a year ago, according to GasBuddy data compiled from more than 11 million weekly price reports covering over 150,000 gas stations across the country.
Historical gasoline prices in Modesto and the national average going back ten years show the highest price in Modesto at $4.39 on Feb. 5, 2022 and the highest national price of $3.44 per gallon on Feb. 5, 2023. The lowest price in Modesto was $2.17 per gallon in 2016; lowest national price was $1.76 per gallon, also in 2016.
Neighboring areas and their current gas prices include: Stockton - $4.21/gallon, up 8.7 cents from last week’s $4.12; Oakland - $4.48, up 1.5 cents per gallon from $4.46; and San Jose - $4.41/gallon, unchanged from last week.
“A majority of states again saw average gasoline prices rise over the last week, pushed slightly higher by oil prices that had risen to multi-month highs. While most states saw price increases, they were somewhat tame, though the trend will likely begin to accelerate towards the end of the month,” said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy. “For now, the most common gas price in the U.S. remains $2.99 per gallon, but its days are numbered.”
