Donna Linder, Stanislaus County Clerk Recorder, Registrar of Voters has released an update on the canvass of the Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2020 Presidential General Election.

Additional vote by mail ballots have been added to the Election Night vote count. As of Friday, Nov. 6, a total of 169,588 ballots have now been counted. These unofficial updated tally results have been posted on the election website, www.stanvote.com.

The Elections Office continues to scan each vote by mail envelope to credit voters with casting a ballot and check the signature on each envelope against the signature located on each voter’s original affidavit of registration, ballots are then sorted, and prepared for count.

The approximate number of ballots remaining to be processed include:

Vote by mail – 40,000 remaining from Election Day and received by mail with a postmark of no later than Nov. 3, consistent with Assembly Bill 860;

Provisionally voted ballots – 150;

Conditionally voted ballots – 1,600;

Miscellaneous ballots – 840.

All voted ballots from a randomly selected 1 percent of the precincts must be manually tallied and balanced against the computer counts to verify the accuracy of the election tally system. This process is required by law. The office plans to begin work on the 1 percent hand tally of the vote next week.

The canvass will continue until complete. The office will be closed Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2020 in observance of Veterans Day and the canvass will re-commence on Thursday, Nov. 12. California law requires certification of this election to be on or before Thursday, Dec. 6, 2020, which is 30-days following Election Day.
