Water in California

A recent episode of the Stan State EduCast podcast series features Professor of Hydrology Horacio Ferriz, who shares his expertise on topics including California’s water sources and allocation, its jagged history of drought and precipitation and how Californians can better conserve and recycle their most precious resource.

 

Life in Death Valley

Stanislaus State geography and environmental resources students took a seven-day class trip to Death Valley National Park and were impressed by the bounty of life they found in a place with a lifeless name. “This is one of our hallmark courses,” said Associate Professor of Geography Alison McNally. “Students can learn about desert processes, biodiversity and physical landscapes in the classroom, but to go out and be right in the middle of it – they’re living it. They’re feeling it, touching it. It just makes the connection so much deeper when they get out into the field.”

 

Alumnus Scott Kuykendall

Serving students and families, especially those with the greatest needs, gives Stanislaus State alumnus Scott Kuykendall purpose. “I enjoy helping people,” said Kuykendall, the Stanislaus County superintendent of schools. “With education comes the opportunity to serve, and I think that’s where I’m most comfortable.”
