Players from this year’s Riverbank High football teams, along with members of the cheer squad, gathered together on the RHS campus on Saturday morning to wash, rinse and dry cars as a fundraiser for the upcoming season this fall.
Despite the construction going on in both the west parking lot and on Patterson Road in front of the school, cars lined up and were washed as they navigated the bus circle there. The event lasted from 9 a.m. to noon on June 28, and organizers said after the event that they did very well, staying constantly busy the whole time.
Most of the RHS teams had been holding summer workouts and practices, but the California Interscholastic Federation, the organization that regulates high school sports, has designated July 1 through 14 as a dead period for all teams.
This is a two-week, no-contact period mandated by the CIF for all sports at all levels. During this time, coaches and student-athletes cannot have any contact, including practices, weightlifting, or any coordinated workouts.
It applies to all sports and all levels within the CIF.
Immediately adjacent to the car wash area Saturday, the Riverbank High Sports Boosters fireworks stand was set up, and it opened for the first time at noon. It will be available through the evening of July 4, or until they run out of fireworks.
