Drivers in the area on March 14 ran into an unexpected detour on Patterson Road, at the BNSF/Sierra Railway crossing. City officials posted a notice the next day warning motorists that the rerouting would be in effect until the end of the day on Thursday, March 16. Turns out, according to the Public Works Department, the train experienced a derailment, but by the weekend, the detours were still in place. And just a month ago, on Feb. 20, a train also experienced a derailment, just a bit further east, across from Riverbank High School.
