A two-year-old boy who drowned in a backyard hot tub in Riverbank during the evening of Wednesday, July 27 apparently died as the result of a tragic accident, said Police Chief Bill Pooley.

The child was identified by family members as Isaac Felix and was recovered from the water of a family spa that was part of the ground-level pool, according to the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department.

Deputies responded to the 3600 block of Reich Lane off Terminal Avenue about 9 p.m. that evening for an emergency call about an unconscious child.

When the deputies arrived, family members were trying to resuscitate the child. Deputies took over cardio pulmonary resuscitation on the child and he was transported to a local Modesto hospital emergency room, where he was pronounced dead.

Several adults and children were swimming in the family pool and attached spa when one of the older children spotted the child underwater in the hot tub, witnesses told the Sheriff's Department.

Some 40 family members had gathered for the party at the home of the boy's uncle and aunt, Miguel and Erica Felix.

Felix said his brother Emmanuel and sister-in-law Gloria were careful parents who kept an eye on their son at all times. The boy was last seen playing about 30 feet from the pool and spa, according to deputies.
