A Riverbank woman accused of trying to kill her estranged husband with a can of wasps entered a no contest plea of assault with a deadly weapon Friday, Feb. 22 and was sentenced to two years in state prison.
Angela Nellany originally was charged with attempted murder and solicitation to murder for reportedly placing a soda can full of wasps in her husband's truck, knowing he was severely allergic to their sting, and then hiring a hit man after he survived the wasps.
Nellany has been held in jail since her arrest a year ago and probably will serve only another six months, said Riverbank detective Mark Copeland, who added there were problems in securing reliable testimony on both sides for a trial and the plea bargain was a reasonable compromise.
