Weekend Celebration Wraps Up Centennial
centennial

Coming this Saturday, Aug. 20, the City of Riverbank puts the ‘cherry’ on top of its Centennial Celebration. It will be a busy day for both officials and celebrants.

The day starts off early, with balloon launching between 6 a.m. and 7 a.m., at the Sports Complex on Morrill Road, just west of Oakdale Road.

The celebration shifts to the Plaza del Rio Park downtown, with a free breakfast scheduled from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m.

Next will be the unveiling of the Centennial Mural, painted on the wall at the back of the stage in the Plaza.

Following that will be some entertainment on the stage. There’ll be a performance by the Riverbank Ballet Folklorico, from 9:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. Then, a performance by the Herb Henry Family, a local gospel group that got its start in Riverbank.

There’ll be a break through the afternoon, then the evening is capped off by a variety of activities in the Plaza, with live music, food and beverage vendors, a photo booth, carriage rides and kids activities, even a bounce house is planned. Those events are scheduled to run from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

And organizers are saying there’ll be much more, all to help the city close out its observance of the Centennial Celebration, 100 years for the City of Action.
