If you don’t live in Stanislaus County, don’t plan a trip to Woodward or Modesto Reservoirs anytime soon.

Stanislaus County Parks and Recreation officials put the information out late Thursday, July 30; as of Friday, July 31 the recreational areas will only be open to Stanislaus County residents.

“Upon consultation with the Sheriff and our Public Health team, the decision has been made to reduce public access to Woodward and Modesto Reservoirs for the health and safety of Stanislaus County. Stanislaus County remains on the State Public Health Officer’s monitoring list due to elevated levels of transmission of COVID-19,” the department noted in a statement. “To reduce the number of persons at the reservoirs and the potential for transmission of disease, day-use will be restricted to Stanislaus County residents effective, Friday, July 31st. Camping reservations for non-county residents will be honored through Thursday, August 6th. Camping reservations for non-county residents after August 6th will be canceled. These restrictions will be in effect until further notice.”

For Stanislaus County residents that can visit the reservoirs, day use hours at both Woodward and Modesto Reservoirs are 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.
