While the rest of the planet is in a frenzy over FIFA World Cup Soccer, prospective local soccer stars have returned to youth soccer action at the Riverbank Sports Complex on Morrill Road.
Riverbank’s Earthquakes Youth Soccer Club began its summer season on June 24 and will continue through July 26 on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Play is divided into four age groups, with both girls and boys playing together.
The teams are Under 6-years-old, U-8, U-11 and U-14 with games played at 5:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. The younger players have several teams in each age group, but the older brackets are fielding only two teams each, so they play each other in every game.
The summer season gives youngsters the chance to keep skills sharp in the game as well as getting outside for exercise.
For those who are not soccer aficionados, FIFA stands for Fédération Internationale de Football Association, which is French for International Federation of Association Football, as soccer is referred to as football in many other countries.
