Dear Editor,
After listening to Speaker of the House, Mr. Johnson on Fox News, I am a little confused. He said; “A simple summary, and a simple fact: it is extremism on the left that is the root cause of Americans’ suffering right now.”
I thought that the president was a Republican and the Republicans controlled the “House” and “Senate”. It made sense they all knew what was in the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act, 119 Congress”, since they created it. Logic would lead one to conclude every Republican knew they were going to cut 186 billion dollars from the SNAP program (food for 42 million Americans) and 1.2 trillion dollars (“trillion”, with a “T”) from the Medicaid program (20 million plus, who depend on it for their health care).
Why are the Republicans blaming the Democrats? Republicans have all the power. They could have said, “Okay we will fund both programs. After all, we have no plan for health care for America and hunger affects Republican constituents also.” No “shut down”, no pain! But, no. Instead Democrats are “extremists” and for good measure; “Marxist communists”!
If the Republicans do the right thing and agree to leave the funding for SNAP and Medicaid alone, the pain would subside. Less fortunate people would have access to supplemental nutrition and medical care. Blaming Democrats, and name calling isn’t going to help a family feed their children or provide them health care when they are sick.
Sincerely,
Larry Podolsky
