Lots of people are resolving to get more exercise in 2015 and many also want to do something worthwhile. I am a volunteer with an organization that helps people do both – Team in Training, part of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
In 2011 I joined the Northern San Joaquin Valley Cycle team and with great coaching was able to complete a full century. I am signed up for my fourth event with TNT, to get in better shape and to raise money for research and for programs that directly help cancer patients.
We dedicate our weekly training sessions to cancer survivors or those who lost the fight. Some are family members and some are participants. It helps puts a hard workout in perspective when we think of what they have endured.
For summer 2015, Northern San Joaquin Valley teams will train for a half or full marathon, a century bike ride or a triathlon. To learn more or sign up, go to www.teamintraining.org/sac/.
We start pre-training in January, with our official kick off on Feb. 5. Please join us. You’ll be healthier and you will become part of the campaign to find a cure.
