Rainy weather that continued last week across the region didn’t stop Bruin athletes from getting in their scheduled contests. Soccer squads did have to play on other fields as opposed to those at the high school but they were still able to play.
Following is a wrap of the recent action, with Trans-Valley League play in full swing.
Lady Bruin Basketball
On the home court, the varsity Lady Bruins lost a heartbreaker in their only game last week. Riverbank was leading at the end of each of the first three quarters, but the visiting Lady Huskies of Hughson slowly and steadily chipped away at the lead. They got it tied up in the fourth quarter and then pulled ahead, taking a win from Riverbank by a 53-49 final.
This week, the girls are on the road. They were scheduled to be at Ripon Christian on Tuesday, after The News went to press, and travel to Livingston for a Thursday, Jan. 19 contest.
Bruin Basketball
On Wednesday, Jan. 11, the Riverbank boys took a varsity basketball win as they defeated the Hughson Huskies on their court, 61-59. They then traveled to Waterford at the end of the week, defeating the Wildcats, 51-37, making up a rescheduled preseason game.
The Bruins were scheduled to host Ripon Christian High School on Tuesday, Jan. 17 after The News went to press. They will close out the first round of TVL play by hosting Livingston on Thursday, Jan. 19.
Lady Bruin Soccer
The Riverbank girls’ soccer team played Hughson on Tuesday, Jan. 10. The Lady Huskies scored first, in the first half, but Riverbank came back in the second to get a goal of their own. That left the teams tied, ending up with a 1-1 draw in Trans-Valley League play. The Lady Bruins are scheduled to play at Hilmar on Thursday, Jan. 19.
