Riverbank scored two goals within eight minutes and ended by defeating Ripon, 5-0, at soccer on Thursday.

Bu the shutout came after a 3-1 loss to a powerful Hilmar squad earlier in the week.

In Thursday's home match, the Bruins were leading by 5-0 by halftime.

"Our play went down after that. And they kept working at us," said Riverbank coach Martin Gonzales.

"I want to see us continue to play at our level, not play down to weaker opponents," he added.

Bruin goal scorers were Ramiro Calderon, Jesus Yepez, Lisandro Reyes, Ramundo Garcia and Alejandro Pantoja. Two assists came from Garcia. Goalie Alturo Albor, who made two saves.

In Tuesday's game, Hilmar was ahead at 2-0 by halftime, but Riverbank was making a lot of shots.

"We dominated, but we could not put the shots away. We must have taken 20 shots to get our one goal, while Hilmar took six shots to score three goals," said Gonzales.

The Bruins took some solid shots, but Hilmar's goalie dived the right way and made the save every time.

Riverbank scored with seven minutes left in the game, had good momentum and looked like scoring again before Juan Lopez was hurt in going up for a header.

"He got kicked and stepped on. He's got cleat marks on his upper thigh," said Gonzales.

"We were peppering Hilmar with shots. They were holding their breath. I think we can beat them next time," said Gonzales.

Patterson leads the Trans Valley League with a 2-0 record, and Hilmar is close behind with a 3-1 overall mark.

This week the Bruins were set to play Amador on Tuesday, but have no match slated for Thursday. They will face Ripon Christian away on Tuesday, Sept. 30.
