Bruin boy harriers, running in the frosh-soph race, placed second out of 13 teams in Saturday's Sierra Invitational in Modesto.
Omar Fernandez, Robbie Searway and Isaac Montoya finished first, second and third with times of 10:46, 11:09 and 11:13 for the two-mile course.
Fernanadez' time was one of four course records set that day.
The largest high school cross-country event in recent memory for Modesto, the meet drew 21 high schools from the north San Joaquin and Bay area.
"Our three top boys ran together for a mile, then Omar took off and ran the second mile faster than the first," said Bruin boys coach Bruce Edwards.
Everybody scored a personal record and as a coach he was very pleased, seeing this is a building year, he added.
Escalon won the frosh-soph boys' event with 32 points, trailed by Riverbank, with 54 points, and Livingston, with 68 points.
"But Ripon did not attend and Patterson was busy with another meet. So we didn't have all the league teams there, Edwards noted. "We have the potential to give Escalon a run for their money."
Riverbank is running its boys at the frosh-soph level because the team is very young. It has no seniors, one junior who is injured, three sophomores and two freshmen.
