Riverbank’s varsity boys and varsity girls basketball teams celebrated the Bruin Winter Homecoming this past Friday, with Calaveras High School Red Hawks visiting on Jan. 31. The results, however, were far from the same, at the end of the day as the girls won but the boys lost.
Lady Bruin Basketball
The girls were able to continue their winning ways on the home court, defeating the visiting Lady Red Hawks, 63-34, celebrating a string of seven consecutive home court wins.
Senior point guard Taylor Macias helped the home team by sinking enough baskets to move her career total points past 1500 during the effort, celebrated by the team with photos and cheers after the final buzzer.
The varsity Lady Bruins beat Bret Harte 58-55 on Tuesday last week. Riverbank was to host Summerville on Feb. 4, and travel to Linden on Friday, Feb. 7.
Bruin Basketball
Varsity boys were not as successful in their efforts on the court, even though they, too, were celebrating Winter Homecoming and crowning a queen and king at halftime.
They only led the Red Hawks after the first basket of the game, then fell behind and stayed there, finishing on the short end of a 61-32 final score, by the end of the Mother Lode League game. And they fell at Bret Harte to the host Bullfrogs, 66-54, on Tuesday last week.
This week, the Bruins were to play at Summerville in Tuolumne County on Feb. 4, then travel to Linden on Friday.
Bruin Soccer
Riverbank scored a goal in the first half against visiting Bret Harte on Thursday, Jan. 30, adding more in the second half to finish with a 4-0 Mother Lode League victory. The boys are scheduled to host Linden on Thursday, Feb. 6.
Lady Bruin Soccer
The girls lost to Calaveras at home on Tuesday, Jan. 28 by a 1-0 final, then traveled to Bret Harte on Thursday, winning there, 1-0. They are to travel to Linden for a Thursday, Feb. 6 contest.
Wrestling
The Bruin boy and girl wrestlers have the Mother Lode League Championships scheduled for all day Friday, Feb. 7, being hosted at Bret Harte High School in Angels Camp.
