Taking on a familiar course, members of the Oakdale varsity boys cross country team put together a 19th place overall finish as a team on Saturday, Nov. 29 at Woodward Park in Fresno.
The 5k course was the host site for the CIF State Championship cross country meet.
For Oakdale, there were several personal best times for the varsity boys team. Senior Sean Muturi placed 45th overall in a personal best time of 15:45. He was followed by junior Weston McGhee, 57th, 15:52 personal best; junior Quinn Baca, 84th, 16:11 personal best; senior Mitchell Benning, 141st, 16:42 personal best; sophomore Roman Moreno, 174th, 17:11; sophomore Trevor Powell, 193rd, 17:29 personal best; and freshman Aden Cavanaugh, 208th, 17:59.
Oakdale’s lone female qualifier, sophomore Addison Wylie, took 36th overall on the 5k varsity girls course, recording a time of 18:33.
“The kids ran really well against some of the best runners in the state on a very fast course,” said Oakdale head coach Guy Fowler. “To get here is a major accomplishment and then to run well, you cannot ask anymore from them. It was a great (cross country) season but now it is time to get ready for track season.”
