Riverbank High School athletes are on winter break, but that hasn’t stopped them from continuing with pre-season contests. It may seem odd, with school out for the end of the year in Riverbank this past week, but other districts were still in session so Bruin teams were able to continue with non-league meets and matches.

Riverbank Wrestlers

RHS grapplers were able to co-host matches here at home on Wednesday, Dec. 18. It was the first time in five years that the mats have been used for a competition in the Ray Fauria Memorial Gymnasium. There have been wrestlers during interim seasons, but only a few, not enough to host a full-roster meet.

Although there still isn’t a complete roster in all weight categories, Riverbank was able to host a meet by combining with Modesto Christian’s Crusaders, to take on Hughson’s wrestling Huskies.

Riverbank’s next outing is a dual meet scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 8. The opponents are still to be announced.

Bruin Boys Basketball

Boys varsity basketball players traveled to Ceres last Tuesday, Dec. 17, taking on the Hawks of Central Valley High School, winning a squeaker, 46-43.

Despite the holiday break, all three Bruins basketball teams were scheduled to host Stagg High School teams from Stockton on Monday this week, Dec. 23. The games were scheduled after The News went to press.

The freshman team is set for the Davis Tournament in Modesto this weekend, with all three teams scheduled to travel to Oakdale on Monday, Dec. 30 to close out the year.

Lady Bruin Basketball

The girls varsity team had been scheduled to host Sonora on Tuesday, Dec. 17, but the game was played the day before instead. Riverbank fell, 73-31, in non-league play. They also had a Livingston Tournament game against El Capitan High School from Merced, losing 56-12.

The girls were scheduled to play at Beyer High in Modesto on Monday, Dec. 23.

Bruin Soccer

Riverbank varsity boys soccer hosted Calaveras High School from San Andreas, pulling off a 3-0 win on Tuesday, Dec. 17. They won’t play again until Friday, Jan. 7, when they travel to Central Catholic in Modesto.

Girls Soccer

The Lady Bruins traveled to San Andreas to take on Calaveras High, falling 4-0, prior to the holidays. They’re next scheduled to host Sonora’s Lady Wildcats on Friday, Jan. 3.
