Bruin Ballplayers Beat Argonaut by 8-3 Verdict

Riverbank High diamondmen delighted local baseball fans by winning their first home game of the season against Argonaut on Thursday, March 4.

Having lost to Sonora in the season opener on March 2, the Bruins were 1-1 as they prepared to face Central Catholic on Tuesday and Pitman at home tomorrow, March 11.

Scatttering eight hits against Argonaut, Riverbank piled up three runs in the opening inning, four more in the second and a clincher in the sixth.

Riverbank also held their opponents scoreless until the sixth inning when Argonaut finally pushed across two runs.

Kevin Cole started on the pitching mound for Riverbank and was relieved by Jason Canada in the fifth inning. Catcher Andy Villalobos handled the action behind the plate.

Offensively, Cody Avery had an outstanding day, going 4-for-4 with two doubles and two runs scored. Adan Mercado had only one hit in two visits to the plate but scored three runs. Canada had a double in three times at bat.

The junior varsity Bruins won their game 9-2 to complete the home opener sweep.
