Bruin booters Lose Stream As Season Ends

Bruin booters came up with only one goal and suffered three losses since the last report. But they remain hopeful about winning their last game today at home.

They already will finish with a better season than last year.

Center forward Serena Palmer kicked the goal with an assist from Courtney Brock in Wednesday's away game against Ripon, which Riverbank lost, 8-1.

The Bruins also lost to Hilmar, 11-0, away on Friday, and were defeated by Ripon Christian, 4-0, in a home game on Monday.

Riverbank goalie Erica Fernandez posted 15 saves against Hilmar, 14 against Ripon Christian, and eight against Ripon. In the Ripon game, Lupita Martinez also took a turn in goal and made four saves.

Sonia Silveira was outstanding in defense in all three games, said Bruin coach Jim Anderson, adding "she's a monster back there."

If Riverbank defeats Patterson in today's home finale, and Livingston loses, the Bruins will finish out of the cellar.

With a win and a tie to their credit, they already have a better record than last year when their only win was in a tournament.

The score against Hilmar really did not reflect the game, Anderson said. Hilmar led 4-0 at halftime, but was battling a tough Bruin defense.

"Our midfield was weak and we mounted little attack. But our defense was impressive," he said.

"Erika Fernandez was awesome," he said of his fullback. Silveira, Alex Benitez, Samantha Arteaga and Liz Meza Medina also contributed to a strong defensive effort.
