Alex Reynaga and Manuel Jimenez combined for nine converted 3-pointers, but Riverbank High's varsity boys basketball team could only make one of 11 free throw attempts in a 60-50 loss to visiting Ripon on Friday.

Riverbank trailed 29-21 at the half and brought the game to within three late in the fourth, but Ripon pulled ahead on a sterling performance by Matt Ratto (25 points) to take the win.

"We did not help ourselves by shooting 1-for-11 from the free throw line and missing several easy buckets," Riverbank coach Jeff Jennings said. "Reynaga and Jimenez both had really good games."

Jimenez scored 15 in the loss while Reynaga added 14. Jose Moreno scored eight while Zack Gonzales added six. Robert Martinez added five while Ivan Manriquez managed the teams' only point from the foul line.

Riverbank collected 20 team fouls to Ripon's 14 in the loss.

Ratto was 11 of 12 from the free throw line for Ripon, and drained a big three in the fourth to keep the Indians ahead.

Riverbank (0-2 TVL, 9-9 overall) had opened the season with a 64-53 loss to Ripon Christian after 17 points from Gonzales and 13 from Jimenez. Reynaga added nine in the loss while Benji Leal scored eight.

The Bruins were at Escalon on Tuesday, though results were not available at press time. The team faces Modesto Christian on the road Friday.

Junior Varsity

The junior varsity program fell in 56-36 style to Ripon Christian and was defeated, 52-33, by Ripon. Anthony Navarrette led the team in scoring in both games.
