The Riverbank boys won and Bruin girls scored third place in a frosh-soph invitational track meet at Escalon High School, in a Friday meet that drew eight teams from as many schools.

"There were a lot of wins and a lot of medals for our guys," said Riverbank coach Monte Wood.

Star long distance runner German Fernandez won both the mile and half-mile events, and ran in Riverbank's victorious 4x4 relay. His cousin, Omar Fernandez, won the two-mile event.

"Our distance runners ran particularly well and all placed high in the mile and two-mile events," said Wood.

Ivan Nunez won the 400 meters, followed closely by Alex Cooper in second place.

Levi Luca placed first in the triple jump, and second in the long jump.

Among the girls, Kelly Clancey won the 100-meter hurdles, the 300-meter hurdles, the pole vault and the triple jump. She was named Athlete of the Meet.

Maritza Garcia scored three first places, leading the way in the 800 meters, mile and two-mile events.

Escalon High School won the girls points competition.

The three-way home meet against Patterson and Hughson, scheduled for May 9, was cancelled due to rain. That made a record three out of four home meets cancelled by bad weather this season.

Nearing the end of the season, the Riverbank varsity and frosh-soph teams are scheduled to compete today, May 11, in the Trans Valley League Meet at Stanislaus State University in Turlock. Points competition against Patterson and Hughson will be settled at this meet, which starts at 10 a. m. with field events.

Beyond the League Meet lie the sub sections on May 17 and 19 and the sections running on May 26 and 27.
