Riverbank High’s Bruin football team traveled down the valley to visit Denair last Friday, with a start time delayed by an hour to help cope with the heat.
The Coyotes were able to get on the scoreboard with an offensive attack about midway through the first quarter. With about 5:05 left in that first frame, Denair scored again, but the Riverbank defense was able to block the extra point attempt, holding them to a 13-0 lead after the first period.
Unfortunately, the Bruins were not able to get on the board while the Coyotes scored in each quarter, ending up in a 45-0 final score in the preseason, non-league game.
Riverbank has a bye this week, and hosts Homecoming against the Lions of Valley Christian of Roseville, on Friday, Sept. 16.
Lady Bruin Volleyball
Riverbank netters have a 2-4 non-league record this week, having beaten Central Valley of Ceres a week ago, and coming on strong last Thursday, with a 3-1 victory against the visiting Lady Eagles of Turlock Christian High School at home.
After winning the first game 24-11, the visitors fought back strongly, pushing the Lady Bruins to lose 30-28. A normal game is 25 points, but, like tennis, the victor has to win by two points. The close game was tied at many points through the frame.
After that second game, Riverbank prevailed, 25-17 and 25-20. A fifth game was not necessary.
Lady Bruin Golf
Riverbank beat Orestimba, 164-204, on the Escalon Golf Course on Tuesday, Aug. 30, then on Thursday, Sept. 1, they lost their home opener to Hilmar, 175-164, in Valley-Foothill South League play.
They play again at home on Tuesday, Sept. 13, hosting Denair’s Lady Coyotes.
RHS Cross Country
The Co-Ed Bruin runners are set for the first Trans-Valley League tournament, set for Thursday, Sept. 8 at River Oak Regional Park in Ceres.
