In a special gathering hosted at the Riverbank High School cafeteria on Nov. 20, several RHS varsity football players received recognition for their participation in this year’s Trans-Valley League campaign.

While the Fall Sports Awards used to be a one-time, all sports included event staged on campus, recent years have seen the individual sports meeting at different times to present the honors. Previously, fall, winter and spring sports each met as a group, starting in the Ray Fauria Memorial Gymnasium for the beginning of their awards, usually including Most Improved, All Bruin, and any named to league recognition, breaking up then into individual groups to hand out Letterman awards and other team honors. Officials said these events became difficult while some teams were still involved in post-season League or Section competition and missing out on the awards, so now they meet individually.

Other school fall sports teams held their own awards independently, in recent weeks.

Among those receiving top honors at the Nov. 20 event was RHS senior running back De’Ondrey Davis. He was presented with a plaque from head football coach Anthony Buich to commemorate his selection as All Bruin. Buich also told the crowd that Davis had been named to the All Trans-Valley League Second Team.
