The Riverbank High wrestling program has made tremendous strides throughout the entire 2008-09 season and now the squad will be looking to make one final push as they prepare to test their mettle during the Trans-Valley League Championship Meet in Hughson.

Members of the Riverbank Bruins wrestling program will be butting heads with all the wrestlers in the TVL in search of a spot in the Sac-Joaquin Section Division V Wrestling Tournament at Lindhurst High in Sacramento.

The Bruins will need to put on an impressive performance during the TVL meet on Saturday to even be in contention for the divisional action beginning Feb. 20.

Riverbank closed out TVL action with a dual meet against Hughson High and came up on the short end of a close loss. The Bruins got quality matches from Jesus Carrillo and Jesus Cerda, who both turned in pins for the Bruins.

Carrillo stopped his opponent RJ Barrey at the 3:40 mark, while Cerda was able to get his pin at 2:59. Calvin Jetton and Kirk Elwell added 12 points to the scorecard by earning forfeit victories in their matches.

Riverbank will make the early morning trip to Hughson for the TVL finals on Feb. 14, possibly extending the seasons for some of the Bruins' better components. The league meet is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.

The Bruins that put together a worthy performance in Hughson will make the trip north for the divisional, putting the best wrestlers from the entire Sac-Joaquin Section Division V on the same mats at Lindhurst High.
