Athletes participating in Riverbank High sports over the past week were mostly on the road, with just one game played at home.

Lady Bruin Basketball

Riverbank’s lone home game was girls basketball, hosting Waterford on Wednesday evening, Dec. 8.

A skeleton varsity squad competed with the Lady Wildcats, with many of the starters, and including coach Janelle Luu, not only not on the bench, but out of the building altogether, with COVID concerns following routine testing.

Their absence didn’t seem to affect the outcome, nor the quality of play, since many sophomores took up the reins, including a few JV players brought up for the game.

Throughout the evening, the Lady Bruins were never behind, finishing with a 56-29 final non-league victory.

The JV team also saw a favorable decision, taking a 40-13 win.

Riverbank’s varsity suffered a loss at Beyer High in Modesto on Monday, Dec. 6, falling in a close game, 62-56.

Coming up, the Lady Bruins are scheduled to travel to Waterford for a Thursday contest, and were slated to host Central Valley on Dec. 14, after The News went to press.

The next two games in December, as well as the first two in January will be held in the Ray Fauria Memorial Gymnasium.

Bruin Boys Basketball

On Tuesday, Dec.7, the RHS varsity boys went to Angels Camp, to take on Bret Harte High School, wining 49-42.

From Thursday, Dec. 9 through Saturday, Dec. 11, the Bruins competed in the Frank Godinez Tournament at Turlock High School.

On Dec. 9, RHS fell 58-31 to Merced, then lost to Downey High School of Modesto, 80-48.

This week, the Bruins were scheduled to host Central Valley on Dec. 15, and on Friday, Dec. 17, they’ll welcome Denair. On Monday, Dec. 20, they'll host Waterford.

Boys Soccer

The Bruins traveled to Lathrop on Monday, Dec. 6, returning with a 2-2 tie. On Wednesday last week, they were defeated 4-1 by Weston Ranch in Stockton, both pre-season matches.

On Dec. 15, they are scheduled to host Livingston, then travel to Hughson on Friday. On Monday, Dec. 20, they’re scheduled to host McNair of Stockton.

Lady Bruin Soccer

Riverbank’s soccer girls fought to a 1-1 tie at Stagg High School in Stockton on Tuesday, Dec. 7.

They were set to travel Livingston on Dec. 14, after The News went to press, and are to host Hughson on Friday, Dec. 17.
