Baseball, softball, track and field, even tennis is underway as 2020 spring sports get going.
Last week and this, preseason play began on the Riverbank High campus.
Lady Bruin Softball
Riverbank girls softball hosted a scrimmage with Sonora on Friday, Feb. 28, with their first action of the season. The Lady Wildcats scored first, but the Lady Bruins tied up the game in the fifth inning, with a home run by Vanessa Rosas, but Sonora finished the game with two more runs, ending up on top, 3-1.
This week, they’ll be competing in the Jaguar Classic Softball Tournament at Rainbow Fields. And next week, they’ll be playing three home scrimmages Monday through Wednesday.
Bruins Baseball
Varsity baseball scrimmages got underway at Big Valley Christian High School on Friday, with an 18-6 loss to start things off. The boys were to host Summerville on Monday this week, then travel to Waterford for a game on Wednesday, March 4.
Co-Ed Tennis
Bruin boys and girls were to take to the home courts all over town this week for the Doubles Tournament they host each year. Play is to begin Thursday, March 5 after school and continues all day on Friday.
Co-Ed Track & Field
Stadium competition is to begin Thursday, with the Bruin Challenge. The Sierra Relays are this weekend, and the Bruins host a scrimmage meet on Tuesday, March 10. The Stanislaus County meet comes to Riverbank on Friday, March 13.
Bruin Volleyball
Boys varsity volleyball was to begin with preseason play on March 3, hosting West High School from Tracy. Thursday, March 5, they’re to host Big Valley Christian.
Bruin Golf
Boys golf competition was to start with a match against Livingston at home at the Jack Tone Road Golf Course west of Ripon, March 3. They’re to travel to the Turlock Country Club to take on Hughson in league play on Thursday, March 5.
