The Riverbank High boys soccer hosted Summerville on Tuesday, Nov. 8 to begin the Sac-Joaquin Section Division IV playoffs, but results were not available at press time.

A win would propel the team to a D-IV semifinal with Golden Empire Champion Capital Christian (9-0-1) or TVL No. 3 seed Hughson (7-3-2) on Thursday.

Riverbank had a sense of urgency on Nov. 2, but failed to escape the Ray Fauria Memorial Gymnasium with a victory over Hughson and slipped to 0-12 in a complete Trans Valley League schedule.

The team played to 22-25, 17-25, 18-25 losses despite 10-4, 19-17, and 22-20 leads in the first game.

Riverbank played tough in the second game after Amanda Lopez, Raine Gallagher, and Christina Alvarez notched kills, but Hughson bounced back and overcame strong play from Allie Heredia and Katelyn Mitchell to take a win.

A big service ace from Lopez sparked a Bruin rally and a three-point deficit at 18-21 in game three, but Hughson pulled away to win the match.

Riverbank ended the season with three well played matches, and nearly shocked playoff-bound Ripon after a 24-26 loss in the first game of a 3-0 Ripon win on Oct. 31. The team had previously played tough with playoff-bound Hilmar in 15-22, 16-25, 14-25 games.

Big blocks and kills at the net kept things competitive, but Riverbank struggled to get balls to Bruin setters.
