Bruin Thinclads Break Two School Records

Solid performances, although, no big wins was the trend that wound up the season Friday for the Bruin track and field athletes in the Sac Joaquin Section Finals.

Pole vaulter David Harrison placed highest for Riverbank with a seventh place during the two-day meet in Sacramento.

Only the top three finishers in each event advance to the State Meet slated for June 4 and 5 again in Sacramento.

"But David almost qualified at the 14-8 height which would have sent him to the State Meet anyway," said Bruin coach Monte Wood. "He almost made, it but hit the bar."

Riverbank's girls came through in the long distance running events. Britanny Harrison placed 11th in the mile. Bianca Melchor placed 14th and Georgina Arnold 17th in the two mile event.

The Bruins girls pole vaulter Kasey Wool placed 11th in that event on Thursday of the Finals. "She had a bad day," said Wood.

But Wool broke her own school record with a time of 47.5 for the 300 meter hurdles.

Britanny Harrison also ran 2:21.9 in the 800 meters to break a school record that was set originally by her sister, Asia.

"It was the end of a very successful season," said Monte. He looks forward to an even better one next year. That's especially for the girls who are still young and will be returning.

Top hurdler and pole vaulter Kasey will be a senior and Britanny Harrison, a junior. Arnold and Melchor will be juniors but Kelly Clancey still a sophomore.

Among the boys, "Ralph Stevens, a junior, will be the best jumper in the league," he predicted..

"We're losing Mike Searway and Alex Nabors (long distance runners) but Ben DeYoung, who won three events in the League meet, will be returning."
