Riverbank High School athletes swept a home track and field competition against Livingston and Ripon on Wednesday, the contest with Ripon making up for a meet postponed from March 31.
Bruin boys defeated Livingston, 119-13, and Ripon, 82-53, while the girls downed Livingston, 108-19, and Ripon, 102-30.
"They won the first three races but we took the next four or five," said Riverbank coach Monte Wood of the boys competition with Ripon. "We may not be the most talented team, but we have balance. We get points in distance races, sprints, jumps, hurdles, throws, everything."
Francisco Rangel won the shot put and pushed his personal record up by a foot. Jason Sesma also took second in the shot, as weel as second in the discus.
'The throwing events were big for us. We got good points there," said Wood.
Scott Jeglum scored second in the triple jump with a distance of 39 feet, raising his personal record by a foot.
Winners for the boys against Ripon were as follows:
110 meter high hurdles - Mike DeYoung. in 17.3; shot put - Rangel, with 41-1 and a half inch; 300 meter hurdles - DeYoung, in 45.3; pole vault - DeYoung, with 13 feet; long jump - Ralphie Stevens, with 19-1; triple jump - Stevens, with 40-2; 800 meters - Alex Nabors, in 2:09.4; 3,200 meters - Mike Searway, in 11:06; 4x400 relay - Riverbank, in 3:48.06.

"The girls took care of business. Their score was a testimony to how hard they work," said Wood.
Against Ripon, Riverbank's Amanda Martinez achieved a personal record in the triple jump, defeating an opponent who was previously unbeaten.
Kelly Clancey also set a personal best with a long jump of 31-5.
Casey Wood, as usual, won four events, winning the 110 meter hurdles, the 100 meter dash and the pole vault in addition to participating in the victorious 4x100 relay.
Liz Mila placed second in the high jump with a height of 4-6. Allison Holmer won the 200 meters dash.
"She ran well. She's been overlooked before. But she scores some points every week. She works hard," said Wood.
Tiffany Lackey also came in for praise in the distance events.

The younger athletes will compete in a frosh-soph invitational on Friday before the Bruins head into the Trans Valley League meet on May 12. The boys are looking for their ninth straight record, Wood noted.
