While the Riverbank High soccer team dealt with a series of bumps and bruises during the opening stages of the non-league preseason schedule, they have worked hard to right the ship and now the team is rolling with momentum after a blistering start to its league schedule.

The Bruins continued with their hot start, beating Trans-Valley League foes Escalon and Ripon High in consecutive games to push ahead of the TVL circuit with a 4-0 league mark.

After blasting Modesto Christian 8-1 in the TVL opener, the Bruins have reeled off three wins including an impressive 3-1 victory over Escalon, followed by a hard-fought win over the Ripon Indians 3-2 at Mistlin Park in Ripon.

Riverbank defeated Escalon on its home digs behind two goals from standout Christian Albor and one goal from Edeer Zamora. The Cougars refused to go quietly, battling Riverbank to a 2-1 score at the intermission, but one second half goal was more than enough to push the Bruins to the win.

Riverbank found themselves with more of a challenge when they rolled into Ripon to take on the Indians, but the Bruins were ready for battle, holding on to what may be their most important win of the young league season.

Riverbank got standout play from all over the field, yet had their hands full with a determined Ripon team who refused to give away the TVL win, putting together a strong rally with two second half goals and making the Bruins earn their fourth league win.

The Bruins got things under way with a promising first half, heading into intermission with a seemingly comfortable 2-0 lead. The lead was not safe, however, due to Ripon's strong second half, but the Bruins responded, netting a second half goal of their own for a 3-2 victory.

Riverbank got a goal apiece from Nasr Alsumeri, Christian Moya and Ricardo Vigil, accompanying superb goalie play from Hugo Calderon from the keeper spot.

The Bruins will try and keep putting together solid performances with a home contest against Modesto Christian slated for today, Sept. 30, followed by a trip back to Ripon to take on the Ripon Christian Knights on Monday, Oct. 5.
