Riverbank High's varsity football team rolled to 406 rushing yards and a 35-7 halftime lead, ultimately cruising past host Denair for a 41-7 blowout on Friday.

The win was Riverbank's second straight victory (over two postseason qualifiers from 2010) and served well to avenge a 50-6 defeat to the Coyotes last year.

"I thought we dominated really well offensively," Riverbank coach James Oliver said. "Their defense was really committed to stopping our sweep, so we ran inside really well."

Riverbank scored on their first five possessions, starting with a 36-yard run by Jamir Lehyan. Joaquin Felix returned a 55-yard interception for a score and Alex Reynaga broke free for a 37-yard rushing score to end the first quarter.

Reynaga found Dalton Woitysiak for a 27-yard touchdown pass and Raymond Burney broke for a 65-yard jaunt to pay dirt to close the first half. Reynaga later exploded for a 94-yard touchdown run to tally most of his 196 rushing yards on only eight carries. Burney ended with four rushes for 93 yards as well.

Denair rallied to some productive drives throughout the game, but was stopped several times in Riverbank territory to stay off the scoreboard.

Riverbank will face a tough test against Delhi this week during the team's home opener. Delhi defeated a tough team from the Central Section (McLane) to start their season last week and is expected to land big wins in the Southern League in 2011. The Bruins are hoping for a big crowd to come to Angelo Novi Stadium on Friday night to help them kick off the home campaign in style.

"I really believe we will be focused each week," Oliver said. "We will not look past anybody and our league will be really tough this year."

Coach Oliver said Riverbank's captains for the first home game festivities will be members of the 1978 TVL champion team, the last squad to win a conference title.

The TVL is currently a combined 10-3 this preseason with two losses to upstart Livingston (Modesto Christian and Orestimba) and a loss to Division I Beyer (Hilmar).
