Bruin hurler Andy Villalobos delighted a home crowd Tuesday by pitching a 6-0 shutout against Patterson.

Riverbank also won Thursday's varsity baseball game against Ripon, 8-5, to boost its Trans Valley League record to 3-1 with a 6-4 mark for the season.

"Villalobos dominated on the mound. He struck out 10 batters, set the tone for us and we had no errors," said Bruin coach Mike Carrigg of the Patterson game.

At bat, Adan Mercado went 1-for-2 with a home run, two runs scored, two RBIs and a stolen base. Chris Bigelow was 1-for-3 with an RBI.

Making four hits, Riverbank opened with two runs in the first inning, scored one in the fifth, and another three in the sixth inning.

In Thursday's game, also at home, Riverbank was in fine form at bat with eight hits.

Mercado collected two hits, including a grand slam, in three visits to the plate, and stole two bases.

Villlabos was 2-for-3 with a three-run homer and three RBIs; Bigelow went 1-for-2 with two runs scored; and Cody Avey scored three runs.

"We were leading 8-1, going into the sixth," said Carrigg, in noting Ripon's last inning comeback for three runs.

Zac Swanson pitched six and two-thirds innings for Riverbank, struck out seven batters and gave up three of Ripon's seven hits.

Once again, Riverbank opened strongly, with three runs in the first inning, added another in the third and four more in the fifth. Ripon collected one run in the fifth, another in the sixth and three in the final inning.

This week's games are again at home, against Hilmar on Tuesday and against Livingston on Thursday.
