Riverbank's varsity boys basketball team brought one of the Sac-Joaquin Section's top small school programs back to earth in a 47-41 loss to Amador on Friday.

The Buffaloes (15-2) entered the contest on the momentum of seven consecutive victories over teams across every division, but were challenged late in a game that saw Riverbank play to dominating 25-11 second half advantage. Ultimately, the Bruins came up short but showed the team grit and desire in refusing to concede to the Mother Lode League powerhouse.

Zack Gonzales scored 12 points with eight rebounds while Jose Moreno added eight points. Ivan Manriquez scored two while Manuel Jimenez (six) Benji Leal (four), Robert Martinez (four) and Alex Reynaga (eight) contributed as well.

Riverbank is looking to turn things around with the start to Trans-Valley League games after three consecutive preseason losses. The Bruins (9-7) faced a team (Ripon Christian) that had won seven straight games in Tuesday's league opener on Jan. 19, though results were not available at press time.

The Bruins host Ripon on Friday, Jan. 22, for their first TVL basketball contest in the new gym.
