Bruins Take Home All League Honors

The ultra competitive Trans-Valley League was responsible for some big efforts during regular season play and continued excited conference action into big postseason performances as well.

The league carried the favorite (Escalon) for Monday's Sac-Joaquin Section Division V championship game on the baseball diamond, and featured two league programs in the section softball finals on May 21.

The league's respective talent on the softball and baseball diamonds, as well as the soccer field, left room for tight contention for All-TVL honors at recent league meetings.

Baseball

After an undefeated season from the reigning SJS champion Cougars, Escalon took home most of the top TVL honors including MVP (Aaron Pangilinan) and Defensive Player of the Year (Gino Franceschetti).

Riverbank saw sharp-hitting senior Miguel Hernandez take home first team All League honors after a terrific season at the plate. Hernandez will be featured in the Rotary Baseball All Star Game on June 25 at John Thurman Field in Modesto. He qualified for the same junior/senior game in 2010.

Riverbank saw additional All-TVL honors from honorable mention underclassmen Noel Sanchez and Antonio Perez. The two standout pitchers have bright futures ahead on the Bruin diamond.

Softball

An extremely close VOL softball race had several teams battling down to the wire for playoff seeds, and Riverbank was one of them. The Lady Bruins beat TVL champions, Modesto Christian, but struggled to fend off No. 2 seed, Hughson and No. 3 seed, Hilmar.

MC's Brittani McGue landed honor as the TVL MVP, while Hilmar's Alicia Payne nabbed Pitcher of the Year status. Hughson and Modesto Christian players split Offensive/Defensive Player of the Year status.

Riverbank standout ace Carlye Avey was selected to the All-TVL first team with hard-hitting teammates Amy McDonald and Amanda Lopez. Aimee Lopez and Cassandra Gilbert nabbed honorable mention recognition as well.

Soccer

Despite only playing with a handful of experienced athletes, Riverbank's girls soccer team landed their best TVL season in school history.

With Hughson taking home MVP status with Yahahira Valdivia, the rest of the league combined for first team honors across every position of the pitch.

Kaitlynn Deabenderfer and Celina Lopez managed first team All-TVL status after big performances from the season's start to finish.
