League play began for Riverbank sports teams in their new Mother Lode League this past week, with lots of home games for the local teams.
Bruin Football
Boys gridiron action finally returned to the RHS Stadium on Friday, Sept. 20, when the Calaveras Red Hawks came to town to begin Mother Lode League competition.
While successful in the preseason, getting two wins by shutout, Riverbank fell in the home league opener. After scoring the first touchdown to go up 7-0, the Bruins were ultimately overwhelmed by the Red Hawks, 55-7. They play at Summerville in Tuolumne County this Friday, Sept. 27.
Flag Football
The Lady Bruins hosted the Aspire Langston Hughes Academy from Stockton on Tuesday, Sept. 17, rolling to a 14-0 victory, scoring a TD in each half, in Southern Athletic League play. They then fell short, 46-15, at Hughson, on Thursday last week. They were to play at Millenium in Lathrop on Tuesday, then travel Thursday, Sept. 26 to take on Mariposa County.
Lady Bruin Volleyball
The netters hosted the Lady Bears from Summerville High School in Tuolumne County on Thursday, Sept. 19. Getting stretched to a five-game match, they fell 3-2, in Mother Lode play. Riverbank lost the first, 22-25; won the second, 25-19, and the third, 25-21; then lost the last two, 21-25 and 3-15.
This week, they were to play at Linden on Tuesday, and travel to Big Valley Christian for a Thursday match, Sept. 26.
Bruin Teams
The cross country runners are to compete in the Mother Lode League’s first meet on Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 25, in Linden. Girls golf is to play at the Mother Lode League Mid-Year Tournament at Greenhorn Creek Golf Course in Angels Camp.
