Riverbank athletes saw a lot of action on the home fields a week ago, as they prepared for having this week off of school for spring break. Here is a wrap of the recent sports action.

Bruin Volleyball

Back on Monday, April 11, the boys varsity volleyball team welcomed Waterford to the home court, taking the match in three straight games, 25-17, 25-18, 25-16. But on Wednesday, April 13, the Bruins fell to Ripon’s Indians, 16-25, 21-25, and 17-24.

After the break, Riverbank plays two away matches, at Livingston on Monday, April 25, then at Gustine on April 27. They have only one more home match, against Orestimba, on Thursday, April 28.

Co-Ed Tennis

RHS netters saw two matches on the home courts last week. On Tuesday, they hosted Escalon’s Cougars and won by a 6-3 decision, then took on Ripon High School on Thursday, April 14.

These were the final home matches of the 2022 season. After the break, the Bruins will travel to Livingston on Tuesday, April 26. That weekend, the TVL Championship Tournament will be held, scheduled in Stockton.

Lady Bruin Softball

Also this past week, girls softball faced two visiting teams, with Livingston coming on Tuesday, April 12, with the host Lady Bruins finishing on top of the Lady Wolves, 12-0, the falling to Hilmar’s Lady Yellowjackets, 3-0. After the break, they’ll be on the road for two games next week.

Bruin Baseball

Riverbank hosted Modesto Christian in baseball on Wednesday, April 13, winning by an 11-1 final with a two-run sixth inning providing the winning runs via the 10-run rule. The Bruins were on the road the next day, April 14 and took an 18-0 victory in five innings over the host Crusaders.

Track & Field

Angelo Novi Stadium was the site on campus last Friday, the first day of spring break, for the special German Fernandez Distance Carnival, which saw long distance runners come from all over the area to compete.

Fernandez is an RHS graduate who set many records, some of which still stand, in distance running in the early 2000s while he attended the local high school. He competed both in track events and cross country, and competed in college, then internationally after that.
