Closing out the Trans-Valley League season with the varsity girls title was already etched in stone for the Lady Bruins, but that had no impact on their performance, putting together another solid cross country performance to reiterate their dominance with a complete team effort win in the TVL League Meet finale at Legion Park. Riverbank raced out to a 38-38 tie with the Hughson Huskies squad, but held the advantage as Noemi Cisneros' time was better than that of Hughson's No. 6, giving the Lady Bruins the win.

"Our five, six, seven and eight runners all ran exceptionally well," Riverbank head coach Monte Wood said. "We had already won the league championships based on the results of the first two meets, but we did not want to lose that (final) race."

The Lady Bruins have only completed the first of a few remaining tasks as they look to continue their impressive run on into the Sac-Joaquin Section Championships and possibly further over the season's end.

"We have our sights set on qualifying for State," Wood said. "Right now, it will be a battle between Hughson, Colfax and us for that third spot to go to State."

The girls' squad was not the only crew to leave Legion Park with a title, as the Bruin boys team continued its dominance with a 32-point win for the title. Chris Nunez paced the team with a 17:21 time in the 5K race, finishing up just three seconds in front of teammate Jacob Hodges.

Escalon standout Matt Barnum won the race with a time of 17:02, but could only watch, as the Cougars couldn't keep pace with the Bruins, falling 32-36 for the top spot.

Both squads are in preparation for the Sac-Joaquin Sub-Section Meet in Frogtown on Nov. 8. Riverbank will look to push both teams into the next round of Section competition. The Bruins boys squad will begin their 5K trek at 1:05 p.m., while the Lady Bruins begin their race at 1:50 p.m. The top-8 teams and the top-10 individuals not associated with teams will advance into the section meet at Willow Hill in Folsom Nov. 15.
