For Riverbank Softball
Riverbank High School player Courtney Brock hit a double with two outs, and Jaylene Thomas beat out an infield single to score Brock for the winning run of a 7-6 varsity softball game over Amador on Wednesday, March 16.
Amador scored four runs in the first inning, another in the third, and one more in the fourth. Scoring only one run in the second inning and another in the third, Riverbank was trailing until the fifth inning, when its bats erupted for four runs and added a clincher in the seventh.
"We started in the hole. We were down 4-0 in the first inning," said Bruin coach Cassi Ross. "The team usually quits in that situation. But this time we fought back and caught up in the fifth."
Riverbank's 13 hits included multiple hits by Chelsi Walls, Brock and Tessa Lozano. Brock went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs. Thomas also was 2-for-4, with two RBIs. Walls was 2-for-4 with a triple and two runs.
Amador was credited with nine hits. The errors were two for Amador and one for Riverbank.
"We were down four runs, and then two. But we never quit," said Ross. "The girls found they are capable of digging down deep and coming back. I am very proud of them."
Today, the Bruins will play at home against Ripon Christian in their first Trans Valley League game. Tomorrow, they will play on the road against Hughson before taking next week off for spring break.
