Elapse Time Record Set At NHRA Indy Nationals

Randal Andras qualified third and marched into the final round getting by Rickey House, 6.381 at 224.85 mph to 6.484 at 227.19 mph and defending 2019 season champion Ti Tharpe, 6.319 at 218.76 mph to 6.612 at 175.43 mph. On the other side of the ladder it was Jay Turner getting around the #1 qualifier Chris Smith (6.458 at 225.82 mph to 7.026 at 133.709 mph) and Bob Malloy (6.368 at 233.08 mph effort) as Malloy’s bike broke after staging. In the previous round, Malloy had set the new national elapse time record for the Top Fuel Harley with a 6.096 at 216.86 mph run, defeating Ryan Peery and his 6.358 at 220.66 mph.

In the final, Turner got away first (0.025 to 0.037) but Andras got around him before halftrack to take a 6.199 at 224.4 mph to 6.612 at 175.43 mph win.

The Top Fuel Harleys will next compete at the rescheduled Amalie Motor Oil NHRA Gainesville Nationals in Gainesville, Florida from Sept. 25 through 27.
