The Bruin girls' cross-country team swept to victory, as expected, in the TVL Championships staged at Modesto's Legion Park on Wednesday.

The Riverbank runners are undefeated in dual meets and looking to reach the State Meet for the third year in a row.

Escalon's star runner Amanda Moreno led the race in a time of 19:24.

Riverbank's Maritza Garcia came second in 19:44; Hughson's Rebecca Dianda, third, in 19:59; and then the rest of the Bruin team

Gina Arnold placed fourth in 20:27; Brettany Harrison, fifth, in 29:29; Bianca Melchor, sixth, in 20:40; Angelica Duarte, seventh, in 20:45; and Asia Harrison, eighth, in 21:30.

A Waterford runner, Leti Dominguez, managed to squeeze in among the Bruin gang with a ninth place, in 21. 32. Riverbank's Tiffany Lackey brought up the rear with a 10th place in 21:56.

"We took second, fourth, fifth through eighth and 10th,' noted Bruin coach Jeep Oliveira.

It was also a fast time for the race and the whole league, he noted. The top three girls all broke the 20-minute mark.

This Saturday, the Bruins, both girls and boys, head for sub-sections at Angels Camp. The girls will race first at 12:45 p.m.

"Maritza has a nagging ankle injury. So we are resting her for the finals. These are only trials and we should do fine even without her," he added.
