The Riverbank girls lost 3-2 to Escalon in a hard-fought varsity softball game Wednesday.

"It was a great game. We were down 2-0 and came back. The game went into nine innings and only one of Escalon's runs was earned," said Bruin coach Cassi Ross of the away game.

Riverbank batted well, collecting 10 hits, she claimed, although they also made six errors and Escalon's winning run came on an error in the bottom of the ninth.

Chelsi Walls pitched for Riverbank into the capable glove of Tessa Lozano.

Escalon scored single runs in the third and fourth innings. Riverbank's first run came in the fourth when Courtney Brock hit a triple and Jaylene Thomas brought her home with a single.

Riverbank scored again in the sixth inning when Walls cracked out a double and crossed home plate on another hit by Lozano.

"We got some great hits,' said Ross. "We were much improved. We're starting to believe in ourselves."

Brock went 4-for-4 at the plate and hit two doubles and a triple, she added, while Thomas went 2-for-4.

In a game against Ripon on the previous Monday, the Bruins lost 1-0 on their home diamond. The game made up for one postponed by rain on April 8.

"Chelsi threw a two-hitter. But we didn't swing the bat. We had no hits," said Ross.

Ripon scored the only run of the game in the sixth inning and committed no errors while Riverbank made one.

Friday's scheduled game against Ripon Christian was postponed until Monday of this week because RC held its prom on Friday evening and the participants needed time to prepare.

Riverbank's record going into Monday's game was 5-11 overall and 2-5 in league, said Ross.
