Fall Sports Competition For Riverbank Athletes
823 Bruin

The 2023 Fall Sports schedule got underway in earnest for some Riverbank High athletes this past week, with tournament action and non-league games leading the way.

Lady Bruin Volleyball

Varsity girls volleyball began with tournament play on the Orestimba court in Newman, on Saturday, Aug. 19.

Riverbank lost to the Pacheco High Lady Panthers of Los Banos, 2-1, in an early game. They also played against Delhi, but no score was reported.

They were to play a preseason game at home Tuesday, hosting Grace Davis from Modesto.

Bruin Football

Riverbank boys played at West High School in Tracy on Aug. 18, taking on the Falcons of Millennium High School in a preseason game. Riverbank fell, 14-12.

The week before, they had a scrimmage at Liberty Ranch High in Galt.

Coach Joe Pirillo reported that “the scrimmage went well for both JV and Varsity. We got a lot of reps.”

He said that the JV got a bye this past weekend because Millennium doesn’t field a JV team, so Aug. 18 was varsity only.

Thursday, the Bruins play again, on the road, against Valley High School of Sacramento, on the Cosumnes River College field. Their first home game will be on Friday, Sept. 1 against Denair.

Lady Bruin Golf

Girls golf was to begin Monday this week in Turlock, in the Yellow Jacket Tournament, then they travel to Merced for a tournament next Monday, Aug. 28.

Co-Ed Cross Country

Bruin runners will travel to Bret Harte High School in Angels Camp for a scrimmage on Wednesday, Aug. 30.
