A heroic run deep into competition at the U.S. Track and Field Trials ended short of a trip to London at the University of Oregon for Riverbank High and Oklahoma State University graduate German Fernandez.

The stellar distance runner advanced past the first stage of qualifying with a 12th place finish in the 1500 meters at 3 minutes, 41.33 seconds. The time was good enough for sixth in the second heat of qualifying, easily advancing the former Bruin past the stage of 30 qualifiers to the stage of 24 in the semifinals.

There, Fernandez sped to an 11th place overall finish, but didn't qualify in the final 12 because he was 11th in his faster, second heat. His U.S. Trials stanza came to an end with a 3:43.78 time.
