Few games remain as spring sports wind down

Just a couple of home games were on the docket last week, with both boys volleyball and girls softball teams hosting teams from Escalon. And both celebrated Senior Night before their games.

Senior players and their families were introduced to the crowd by Booster Club organizers before the games began.

 

Bruin Volleyball

The varsity boys finished their 2024 spring season last week, hosting Escalon on Tuesday, April 23, after introducing their six seniors who’ll be graduating in just a few weeks. However, they ended the match with a disappointing loss to the Cougars in three games, 11-25, 5-25, and 19-25.

 

Lady Bruin Softball

The softball team also showed off their eight graduating seniors before the home game on Wednesday, April 24. They fared a bit better in their game, defeating the Lady Cougars, 11-6, on the home field.

Riverbank gets a few more Trans-Valley League games this week before the season is over. They are to travel to Livingston on Wednesday afternoon, then host Hilmar on Friday.

 

Bruin Track & Field

Riverbank runners, jumpers and throwers traveled to Livingston, also on Wednesday, April 24.

In girls 100 meters, senior Miranda Calderon finished third with a 14.0 time, and junior Daniela Silva finished fifth at 14.6. Both are personal records. In the 200 meter race, freshman Vanessa Garcia Martinez placed fifth with a PR of 30.5.

In the 100 meter hurdles, senior Selene Navarro placed third with a school record of 21.7, and Tara Wilmoth, also a senior, came in fourth, with a PR of 22.2. Wilmoth also placed third in the 300 meter hurdles, with a PR time of 1:009.7.

The 4x100 meter team of Calderon, Yadira Torres, Daniela Silva and Aaliyah White won, with a PR of 54.8.

In the 4x400 meter race, Calderon, Torres, Vanessa Garcia Martinez and Antoinette Wilkerson won with a PR of 4:44.4.

In the shot put, junior Chantel Andalon threw 24 feet, 7.5 inch, against five other Livingston throwers. Andalon also placed second in the discus, at 64 feet, 4 inches, against six other Lady Wolves.

Navarro placed first in the pole vault, at 7 feet 6 inches, and Kate Tigert, also a senior, came in second, at 6 feet 6.

Riverbank took the top three positions in the long jump, with Torres first, at 14 feet 11.5, a PR, White second, at 23-6.5 and Wilmoth third at 12-7.5. Torres also took the triple jump, at 29 feet, 11 inches.

In boys events, senior Angel Torres-Rodriguez set a PR with a first place in the 400 meters. Freshman Armando Garcia set a PR at 54.5 in third place. Sophomore Gustavo Ortiz set a PR at first place in the 800 meters. Senior Fabian Vigil-Villagomez came in second in the 3200 meter race, with a time of 11:38.1.

Steve Duran placed first in the 110 meter hurdles, at 18.6, while Adrian Madrigal came in third, at 19.7, Danial Orunja finished sixth, at 21.4, while Sean Clark ended in seventh with a 22.4. All are freshmen and all set personal records.

Duran also finished second in the 300 meter hurdles at 46.2, a PR, while Madrigal came in second, at 48.7, Orunja finished fifth at 52 flat. A quartet of Enrique Garnica, Rolando Bazan, Torres-Rodriguez and Sascha Hanou set at PR of 46 seconds and earned second place in the 4x100 meter relay.

Hanou, Max Jimenez, Juan Armenta and Harveer Aulakh set a PR in the 4x400 relay with a 4:04.9 second place. Seniors Juan Salgado and Omar Salgado placed third and fourth in the shot put, at 31 feet-1 and 30 feet-10, respectively. They finished the discus first and second, respectively, as well, at 116 feet-3 and 105 feet 3.5.

Hanou placed first in the long jump, at 18 feet-10, while senior Erik Jimenez came in third, at 18-1.5. Hanou also finished first in the triple jump, at 38 feet 3 inches.

The Trans-Valley League Championship is scheduled for Thursday, May 2 in Ripon.

 

Bruin Golf

The boy linksters were to compete at Pine Mountain Golf Course on Monday in the final TVL meet of the season.
