As the fall season comes to a conclusion for most teams, there were still a couple of events hosted locally by Bruin squads.

First, the flag football girls were in action during a play-in game for the Division 4 playoffs, while the cross country team then put on the Mother Lode League championship event.

Riverbank girls ended their regular season the week before, but found themselves in a ‘play in game’ to get into the first round of CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Division 4 playoffs. Riverbank, the number 14 seed, hosted number 19 seed Escalon on Monday, Oct. 27. Neither team found a way to get on the scoreboard in the first three quarters of the game. The visiting Lady Cougars finally scored a touchdown in the first 16 seconds of the fourth quarter, then again at 8:29 remaining in the game, for a 12-0 victory over Riverbank. EHS went on to face Colfax in the first round on Oct. 29, last Wednesday, falling 20-0.

Cross Country

The Bruin co-ed cross country squads hosted the Mother Lode League Championship races on Wednesday, Oct. 29, at Jacob Myers Park, with local runners doing well, including several placing in the top ten.

In addition to Riverbank, runners came from Big Valley Christian High School, Calaveras, Bret Harte, Linden and Summerville. The varsity races were 5k.

In varsity girls, Riverbank placed at numbers 1 and 2. Finishing at the top was Giselle Fernandez, at 17:52.29, placing first all time. Number two was Gianna Cruz, at 20:11.22,  for number three all time. Emily Ramirez finished in ninth place, with a time of 23:10.63.

Varsity boys from Riverbank placed second, third, and fourth. Gustavo Ortiz came in second, with a time of 16:46.72, at number four all time. Armando Garcia placed third, 16:57.72, for sixth all time. Matt Santana came in at 17:11.95. Giancarlo Reyes finished at ninth, with a time of 18:22.57.

Varsity Football

The season finale was played on the road by the varsity Bruins, with the football team traveling to River Islands in Lathrop to take on the Riptide. The game was moved to Thursday night, Oct. 30 so as not to interfere with any Friday night Halloween festivities.

The host Riptide, however, handed Riverbank a solid 42-14 defeat to end their season. Riverbank had an overall record of 3-7 this season and went 2-5 in Mother Lode League play.
