Riverbank’s volleyball and football teams entertained the home crowds with athletic action on the Riverbank High campus this past week. Golfers were busy with tournament and match play and cross country runners are gearing up for an event next week.

Lady Bruin Volleyball

On the road to start the week, Riverbank girls played a Trans-Valley League match in Ripon, last Monday, Sept. 22, falling 3-0 at the varsity level. They hosted Hughson on Wednesday, also a TVL match, coming up short to the Lady Huskies, 3-0, as well.

This week, they were scheduled to play in Escalon on Monday, then host Livingston on the home court in an Oct. 4 contest.

Bruin Football

Riverbank hosted Gridley, from Butte County, for its Friday Night Lights, falling to the Bulldogs, 23-0. The visitors had scored 16 points by the end of the first quarter, and added one more touchdown in the quarter, tallying a total of 23 points by the end of the first half.

The Bruins were able to hold off the Bulldogs the rest of the game, but, despite several long gains by running back Jeremiah Cooper, the host squad just couldn’t push the ball into the end zone.

The loss leaves Riverbank with a 3-4 record for the campaign so far.

The JV Bruins fell to Gridley, as well, 33-6.

This week, they’ll travel to Yuba County, to take on Lindhurst High School, in Olivehurst, near Marysville, on Friday, Oct. 6.

Lady Bruin Golf

At the Trans-Valley League Mid-Year Tournament, the Lady Bruins finished in a tie for third place. The event was hosted Sept. 25 at Manteca Park Golf Course. Ripon was top team in the competition, carding a 400. They were followed by Hilmar at 423. Riverbank and Hughson were next tied at 433, with Escalon finishing with a team score of 457 and Livingston rounding out the league teams, carding a 461.

Thursday, the girls were the visitors at Escalon – which is also their home course – and just edged out the host Lady Cougars, winning by four strokes. Riverbank got the victory, 165-169.

They were scheduled to host Hughson’s Lady Huskies at the Escalon Golf Course on Oct. 3, and welcome Livingston to the Escalon course on Thursday, Oct. 5.

Co-Ed Cross Country

Both Bruin teams were scheduled to run in the Tom Laythe Invitational at Folsom High School last Saturday, but results were not available at press time. The cross country runners aren’t scheduled to compete again until Friday, Oct. 13, at the Roughrider Invitational at Woodward Park in Fresno.
